This must have been like
the very first
agora,
full of the smells of
different regions,
the sound of tambourines,
vegetables, toys, cooked
food and paintings,
all under one patchwork
of tents.
This, most basic of
all impulses,
to eat, to enjoy the
spices from different
places, to see
what is new,
to hear stories
from the merchants,
to gather with family
and friends.
What if everything
were this simple?
The farmer, the artisan,
the performer meet
the buyer on this
most blank of
stages and exchange
gifts.
