Burden/ Responsibility

by Justine C. Tajonera

There is an infinitesimal line between
burden and responsibility,
for one could easily become
the other in a blink
of an eye.

Imagine holding up a string
that ties up an endless network
of strings,
the center of a web,
the stitches that keep together
the quilt.

The view from the top
can be both exhilarating and
frightening,
the idea that so much
depends on one foundation
stone can be a freedom
or a chain.

Take apart the network
of roots and vines
and veins and
synapses and you will
find that one will
easily come up to
fill another in the organic
way of things.

But imagine that you
said: Yes!
Yes to the universe
and the question that no
one really asks
you
and the world is a
different place,
where you hold up
your string gladly,
willingly.
