By Justine C. Tajonera
It is an old greeting: "Om Shanti."
It is an acknowledgment that there is
a line that separates me
from a material world
and the dimension where
my soul belongs.
I imagine that my body
is a coat for this
particular space
in the world,
in time.
There is a time that
I will cross into
the unknown.
We all know it
but we close
our eyes
to it.
Today, my friend
wept silently
in the car,
grieving for
a loved one,
full of light,
who passed into
the shadow.
This flesh hides me
from the pure
and powerful point
of light that I
am.
I close my eyes
and join the travelers
headed for
the beautiful realm.
One day
we will finally
meet, and I will say,
once again,
"Om Shanti."
