Neighbor

There is no lack

in this world

other than the

ones we invent

or the ones

we create

in our with-

holding.

A very long

time ago,

our baskets

were always

full and

our neighbors

in plain view.

These modern-

day boxes and

dividers are

of our recent

making.

When we belonged

to the world

(and not

the other way

around),

there was no

such thing

as need.

Even the birds

know this

and any

living thing

that belongs

to no

one.

The world

said, “Here,

take what

is offered.”

And it was

up to us

to know

what was

enough.
