Monsters

Like victims, we allow
monsters to be.
We give them permission,
we give them the keys to
our fears.

Like love, we keep them
close to our hearts.
We feed them with our
emotions,
we clothe them with
our despair.

They are hiding in the
borders of our comfort,
just two or three steps
away from what we call
safe.

But give them something bigger
than your insecurities,
something stronger than
mere conformity,
and they, too,
will cower before
your strength
and the sheer power
of your
will
like shadows
cast in the face
of light.
