The Price to be Paid
by Justine C. Tajonera
I imagine the very first
exchange,
the lack and the
solution,
the quantification
of desire.
The prices of love
and peace of mind
are never on
sale.
Pleasure, perhaps,
might come
cheaply.
I dread to pay
for illusions
with my
life
but there is a
very thin line
between contentment
and resignation.
I threw my hat
over the wall
so I have come
to take it.
The steepness
of the climb
has taught me
about the price
to be paid.
