Crossing The Street
by Justine C. Tajonera
We cross the street
together
and you do not
hesitate,
your trust is
absolute.
My hand is steady
as well,
certain and unwavering
as my love
for you.
But as we reach
the other side,
I wonder what gifts
await your generation.
The tainted air
you breathe
is hardly any parent's
dream of
legacy.
But we are alive
together,
now,
walking home,
free to dream
a world
into being.
